New Zealand Police are rolling out roadside saliva drug tests. The problem: the device can fail people who haven't taken any drugs.

You can be clean, get pulled over, and still walk away with a $400 fine, a 12-hour driving ban, and the start of a criminal record — for drugs you never took.

The test gets it wrong as often as up to 1 in 6 times. Police plan 50,000 roadside tests a year — and on the Government's own estimate, up to 5% of clean drivers — about 2,500 people — could be banned from driving for 12 hours on two false results.
